Abstract

The Architecture of Beyliks Period, which is considered as a separate period in the history of Turkish architecture, is almost a bridge between Seljuk and Ottoman architects. The Seljuk State which was founded in Anatolia, combined with the culture that it had accumulated in the lands that it had settled in its own culture and created a unique Anatolian Seljuk architecture. However, in the 14th century, the Seljuks lost their old powers and Turkmen Beyliks declared their independence, and a new era called "The Period of the Beyliks" began. Beyliks who proclaim their independence in different regions have been influenced by the cultures of the geographical regions in which they are located and have revealed their own styles and thus constituted a rich The Art of Beyliks Periods. The Menteşeoğulları Beylik, located in the south-western part of Anatolia, in Muğla and its surroundings, also left important works of the day from this period. One of these works is Milas Firuz Bey Mosque. The Firuz Bey Mosque was built by Hoca Firuz Bey, the governor of Menteşe, in 1394 under the Ottoman administration of Milas. It is also known as ‘Kurşunlu Mosque’. Although the date of construction was regarded as an early Ottoman artifact by some researchers since the Ottomans encountered the first dominion period in Milas (1390-1402), it was the continuation of the period of the Beyliks, with the exception of the plan type. The use of colored stones is also observed in the mosque where the stone treatment is applied predominantly. The ornaments are usually composed of plant motifs such as peony, lotus, plane leaf and rumi motifs. Mukarnas ornamentation is also often used. The ornaments are concentrated on the final congregation site, the crown door, the altar and the windows.
