Journal Title: World Journal of Pharmaceutical Research - Year 2017, Vol 6, Issue 9
Abstract
Aim: The study was carried out to determine the Outlook of Widal and Malaria Parasite among Patients attending Kogi state specialist Hospital, Lokoja, Kogi State. Materials and Method: A total number of one hundred and twenty (120) patients were sampled for widal and parasites infection. 3ml of the blood sample was obtained by Venipuncture from each patient using a sterile needle and syringe and poured in Ethylene-diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA) bottle. The blood sample obtained from each subject was analyzed within 1 hour of collection for malaria parasites and Salmonella species. Result and Discussion: Of the 120 samples examined, 23 (19.17%) had malaria / Typhoid parasites in their blood. Malaria recorded the highest prevalence rate of 15 (12.5%) represented with parasite density and the difference between the pregnant women and age groups were statistically significant (P<0.05). Illiterate and those patients below average had the highest with (8.33%) prevalence rate. Conclusion: The main epidemiological factor to P. falciparum and Salmonella species infection in patients should be considered in relation to the endemic Malaria/Typhoid conditions under which people are living.
