The ozone disinfection treatment of cereal grain used in animal nutrition

Journal Title: Journal of Animal Science, Biology and Bioeconomy - Year 2017, Vol 35, Issue 2

Abstract

The current rules oblige manufacturers to provide high-quality manufactured feeds and adapt them to varying nutritional requirements of animals. The aim of the study was to evaluate the use of ozone to reduce microbial contamination during the storage of cereals. The samples of the experimental group were ozonated and the control was corn without ozone. The results of ozone disinfection studies confirm its high activity against microorganisms that occur on the sur-face of cereal grains. The effectiveness of the ozone disinfection treatment is influenced by the type of ozonated grain and exposure time. The highest reduction rate of bacteria was obtained for triticale after 45 minutes of ozone, while for mold and yeast after 30 minutes. The results confirm the possibility of using ozone to disinfect cereal grain.
