THE PECULARITIES OF FORMATION AND FUNCTIONING OF LEXICO-SEMANTIC NEOLOGISMS IN THE SPHERE OF INTERNET COMMUNICATION

Abstract

Neologisms stand for innovation in every language. New words are created every day and their number in English is growing fast, especially in Internet communication. The article focuses on the means of language enrichment and formation of lexico-semantic innovations within worldwide computer network. The causes of changes in the lexical meaning of generative words are determined. The main types of semantic neologisms word-formation and peculiarities of their functioning are analysed. The article has the following tasks: to identify the reasons for changing of the lexical meaning of a generative word, identify the functional features of innovation on the Internet. The tendency of modern linguistics in the analysis of neologisms that occur because of the use of interactive computer systems in the sphere of humanities and everyday human activity determines the topicality of our research. In the process of lexical-semantic word-formation a change in creating of a lexical meaning of a generative word occurs. The external form of the word is saved. It doesn’t change on the formal level. The lexical-semantic method belongs to the diachronic word-formation methods. Nouns are mostly produced with the help of this method. On the whole, among the semantic innovations a tendency of the formation of more abstract LSV of a word, widening of a lexical meaning prevails. The specialization of a meaning has been less typical in recent decades. The semantic neologisms, to a greater extent than other types of new formations, are used in slang, that is characterized by the efforts to deepen and clarify information and provide the semantic-pragmatic meaning with greater efficiency and expressiveness, causing continuous development of a lexical vocabulary. The use of neologisms helps the addresser to create a modern perspective in the discourse, to emphasize the relevance of the present time, to deprive of the unnecessary conservatism. Semantic neologisms provide the key concepts of a discourse with principal novelty, as usually they are associated in the minds of speakers with the latest period of development of a society and its achievements.
