THE PERCEPTIONS AND VIEWS OF TOURISM STUDENTS ON GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE

Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine the perceptions and views of tourism students on global warming and climate change. The questionnaire was developed to reach the aim and was conducted with 542 students who were studying at the Faculty of Tourism in Balıkesir University. As a result of the research, it was determined that the perceptions of the students about global warming and climate change were generally high and they were concerned about potential consequences. Apart from emphasizing that the precautions taken were not sufficient, the students also pointed out that instead of personal attempts, the government could be more effective in taking precautions. In other words, the students were partly lack of taking action on the things to do. On the other hand, they were stressed that they were volunteers to impose restrictions on their standards of living if it was needed for taking precautions. Finally, t test and ANOVA test were analyzed and significant differences among the variables of gender, age, class level, the environmental education and knowledge of the students in terms of perceptions of global warming and climate change was determined.
