The Performance Assessment of Masat, Beyler and Iğdır Irrigation Schemes

Journal Title: Black Sea Journal of Agriculture - Year 2019, Vol 2, Issue 2

Abstract

In this study, it was aimed to evaluate Masat, Beyler and Iğdır irrigation schemes selected from 3 different irrigation regions of DSI (State Hydraulic Works). Performance indicators that are widely used in the world and in Turkey in the evaluation of the irrigation networks were used. Among these performance indicators, the irrigation ratio, annual irrigation water supplied to users per unit irrigated/command area, relative water supply, output per unit irrigated area, output per unit irrigation water supplied to users were selected. The differences between the performance indicators and irrigation schemes were determined by one-way ANOVA. As a result, irrigation schemes showed similar performance in different performance indicators (p>0.005). The irrigation ratio of Masat and Beyler irrigation schemes was 8.79% and 6.88% respectively. These irrigation networks perform very poorly. Also, the relative water supply of Beyler irrigation scheme was 5.16, which is a major problem. The irrigation ratio in the irrigation schemes was below Turkey average and annual irrigation water supplied to users was determined high due to lack of management, operation requirement of efficient water use within Masat, Beyler and Iğdır irrigation schemes.
