THE PHENOMENON OF MONEY IN THE LEXICOGRAPHICAL AND DISCOURSE ASPECTS

Abstract
The object of analysis is the names of currencies that represent the linguistic worldview of the Eastern Slavs. The subject of the research is the monetary sphere, whose communicative impact is associated with stating the value of material things, characterising the economic and social relations and shaping the ideological values of society. The purpose of the article is to study the history of formation of the monetary relations discourse, which reflects the ancient realm of human industrial activities. The results of the investigation claim the modern interpretation of the phenomenon of money in the economic lexicography to coincide with its traditional linguistic and folklore interpretations presented in the «Dictionary» by V. Dahl. The author points to some important figures forming the areas of monetary circulation from the period of Kievan Rus to the XIX c.: the appearance of the Slavic monetary nominations system and a special science for coin collecting; the appearance of professions involved in financial relations; a historical diversity of the ways of payment indicating an axiological marking; the differences between the concrete and abstract meanings of the word dengi; the formation of the cultural concept «money like wealth.» The result of the study can be used in the works in discourse linguistics, ethnolinguistics, culture studies and language history.
