The phenomenon of open urban space as a social formation

Abstract

In recent decades, we see how the statics is losing popularity, the need to meet and be together is slowly becoming irrelevant, giving way to other formats of spatial activity of city inhabitants. People more and more scarcely gather in urban premises or in those similar to these ones, instead they move around or prefer halting for a short time. Open physical space ought to enter the foreground of establishing the social life in the city again. People are attracted to such spaces; they help them to familiarize with one another, to watch other individuals within the space, to acquire social experience. The feature of an open urban space as a social setting of existence, activity and interchange is its high attendance, liveliness, friendly over-individual atmosphere. Open urban space must always remain a flow of events, occurrences and communications among townsfolk. Open urban spaces as city social establishments can emerge and successfully operate under condition of considerate attitude of the city's administration and residents. It is important to understand that any open urban space carries important functional significance and is not just a simple element of urban architecture; it plays an essential social role in the lives of town-dwellers as well as in shaping urban identity. In addition, it forms account for tourists’ insight and culture of public communication in general. Research and analysis of open urban space as a social formation, perception of this space and its utilization by people allows you to uncover the nature of social transformations that occur within the city is made in the article. Some of the trends in the development of open urban space, above all, as a social entity are being examined.
