Journal Title: Молодь і ринок - Year 2018, Vol 161, Issue 6
Abstract
The peculiarities of the piano pedagogical work of the famous Ukrainian composer Stephaniya Turkevych as well as the necessity of its creative use in the process of musical education of young people are revealed in the article. Stephaniya Turkevych was the first Ukrainian female composer, whose work has become a significant contribution to our professional music. She has been a student of V. Barvinskiy and A. Khybinskiy in Lviv, V. Kurtz, Ye. Lyalevych, F. Virer, Y. Marx in Vienna, O. Shin in Prague and has become a great pianist, accompanist and composer. The creativity after her emigration (England) for many years was withdrawn from both the concert and educational process as well as from the scientific circulation. First of all the artist referred to the children’s repertoire, in particular the piano. The cycle of pieces for children by S. Turkevych consists of nine various miniatures, which has been created during 1936 – 46 and devoted to her grandson Roman. Each of them has a concise program name. The author tried to reproduce the image by certain musical means, which is based in the creation and close to the children. The collection is useful as educational material, because it contributes to the increase of piano mastery of students, formation of their outlook, independence of musical thinking. The miniatures reveal the original individual style of the composer, her special interpretation and investigation of folk patterns with an interesting and unusual intonation-harmonic composition (inclination to diatonic, use of dissonant combinations, parallel intervals and triads). Thus it is interesting to examine this approach during studying various ways of investigation of folk samples in professional art. It is noteworthy that the works by this Ukrainian composer have been published and introduced into the concert and educational repertoire for the last two decades. The works for children will be use in the education of citizenship, patriotism, national consciousness of the Ukrainian youth.
