Journal Title: Науковий і культурно-просвітній краєзнавчий часопис Галичина - Year 2017, Vol 29, Issue
Abstract
The article reveals the role of the Podil’skuy Kraj of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (Bandera) in the formation and deployment of the armed wing of the national resistance movement in Galicia. The author, on the basis of the analysis of source materials, argues that the territories of today’s Ternopil region and some regions of the modern Ivano-Frankivsk region, in particular, played an extremely important role in the process of organizing the armed units of the OUN (b). Specified regions in the above mentioned were the bases of mobilization and economic and material reserves. The active participation of the population of these regions in the process of deploying military units was made possible through the functioning within the defined territories of a well-developed nationalist underground. Its leaders, following the orders of the OUN leadership (b), not only ensured the receipt of human reserves and material support to the units of the Ukrainian Narodna Samooborona (Ukrainian People’s Self-Defense Force) set up in July 1943, but also resorted to the organization of separate military units directly on the ground. In the article the features of the emergence of military-tactical units of the national resistance movement in the modern Ternopil region in general, in particular, in the Rogatyn district, were traced. It is noted, in particular, for the reason and consequences of the relocation to the boundaries of the Podolsky Krai of the OUN (b) separate tactical units of the UNS (one hundred "Syromantsy" for example) with their subsequent reorganization. The author outlines the chronological stages of the organizational formation, structuring and functioning of the armed units of the UNS, which became the basis for the deployment in 1944 of the military structures of the VO III “Lysonia” UPA-“West”. The article describes the circle of OUN (b) activists who were involved in participation in the specified processes. The process and stages of the emergence and deployment of military structures of the nationalist wing of the national resistance movement are reflected in the use of both documents of the Soviet Union security service and underground material.
