THE POETICAL REPORT OF A LEGATION: KASIDAH OF TANNANE
Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2015, Vol 8, Issue 40
Abstract
The poem from the Divan of Sünbülzâde Vehbî studied in this article is a eulogium or kasidah both in the form, style and content. However with number of lines the kasidah also takes the form of the journal of legation. In terms of rhyming and sections of kasidah and with the information given and the description of the time and mission of the legation in thirty nine lines, the eulogium differs from the traditional kasidah. The poet keeps the traditional sections namely Teşbib, girizgâh, methiye, fahriye and dua and adds a description his legation to Iran which was something unusual. Here, he tells about his mission through comparisons between Persians and Ottomans. Considering this part in the poem, it can be said Sünbülzâde Vehbî offered a novelty to the poetical tradition.
