The possessions of plant density and planting arrangement on dry yield and some agronomic characteristics of sweet corn (Zea mays l.),H.S.C. cultivar
Journal Title: International Journal of Farming and Allied Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 3, Issue 1
Abstract
In order to find essential information for efficiency management of field corn, a field experiment was undertaken at Agricultural Research Center of Golestan, Iran in Gorgan station during and to determine the best planting pattern and density of sweet corn. This research was laid out in a randomized complete block design arranged in a factorial with four replications for two years. The planting patterns consisted of levels; P =single row and P =double row with cm space and the plant density had four levels included of D = , D = , D = , D = .Plant density was impressed the amount of ear product, biomass, grain/ear ratio and harvest index. The highest ear dry weight and total dry yield were ton ha- and ton ha- respectively at the plant density of plant ha- . While the great grain/ear ratio and harvest index parameters with amounts of and respectively got from low plant density ( plant ha- ).Combination treatment of planting patterns and plant density showed: high plant density ( plant ha- ) by double row pattern produced the most ear dry weight ( ton ha- ) and total dry weight ( ton ha- ). In contrast the highest harvest index ( ) was related to low plant density ( plant ha- ) with centimeter double row planting pattern. Overall findings showed that double – row planting pattern had better performance compare to single row. Double - row planting arrangement where on double - row raised bed with plants per hectare is the best choice for corn and forage production, because with changing arrangement from single row to double row the inter plant competition was decreased and we could get high yield.
