The possibility of implementing school based curriculum at darab high schools

Abstract

The present study was carried out attempting to investigate the possibility of implementing school-oriented curriculum at Darab high schools from the perspective of principals and teachers. The research method employed in the study was descriptive and of survey research type. The research statistical population involved a total of 17 principals and 394 teachers (215 males, 196 females) at Darab high schools. Moreover, by using multistage cluster sampling, a body of 10 principals and 50 teachers (33 males, 27 females) was selected as the research sample. The research instrument was a questionnaire devised by the researcher. It should be noted that the questionnaire was designed using other instruments, namely Davoodipour et al. (2008), Adediwuro (2012), and Othman (2013) inventories. In addition, the reliability and validity of the questionnaire, designed by the researcher, were calculated and their values were confirmed as being acceptable. To analyze the data, the present research utilized univariate t-test descriptively and inferentially. It was found that principals and teachers’ knowledge is adequate to implement school-oriented curriculum. Likewise, both principals and teachers hold positive and favorable attitudes towards the program. However, principals and teachers’ skill was not adequate for implementing such a program. Similarly, from their perspective, the facilities of Darab high schools were not enough to run the school-oriented program. Finally, on the basis of the research results, related limitations and practical research suggestions are also provided.
