The effect of creativity training on creativity and critical thinking of female high school students in Bandar Abass

Abstract
Aim The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of creativity training on creativity and critical thinking in male high school students studying in Bandar Abass. The creativity training (using 9 creativity techniques) was the independent variable and creativity and its factors (fluency, innovation, flexibility and extension) and critical thinking and its factors (evaluation, analysis, deduction) were the dependent variables. The present study was a field experimental design with pretest-posttest and follow up control group design. The instruments of this study included Torrance’s pictorial creativity test, Abedi’s creativity test and California critical thinking test. The sample consisted of 60 female high school students studying at third grade (2011- 2012), who were selected by multiple stage random sampling method and were assigned randomly to experimental and control groups. Before teaching creativity techniques, pretest on creativity and critical thinking were taken from both experimental and control groups. Afterwards, the experimental group was treated with creativity training techniques , but the control group didn’t receive any training. After the intervention , post test were taken immediately from both experimental and control groups. The results of MANCOVA analysis showed that creativity training cause significant improvement in student’s creativity and critical thinking and their components.
