THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN PATIENTS AFTER CRUCIATE LIGAMENT RECONSTRUCTION ASSESSED USING A NEW M TEST

Journal Title: Medycyna Sportowa - Year 2015, Vol 31, Issue 1

Abstract

Background. The continuous progress in using arthroscopic techniques as well as the precisely adapted for each surgical technique methods of postoperative treatment and rehabilitation contribute to truly positive results of the outcome of damaged ligament treatment, confirmed by functional tests. However, observations indicate that the positive results of treatment are based only on clinical tests which are not always in conformity with the patients' preferences and expectations. Therefore, the patients' subjective assessment of comfort and the quality of life is increasingly important. The aim of this paper is the proposal and presentation of the practical application of the new tailored M test for the assessment of the quality of life in patients after cruciate ligament reconstruction.Material and methods. The sample comprised 93 patients after reconstruction of anterior cruciate ligaments (ACL) undergoing rehabilitation in Lądek sanatorium. On completion of the rehabilitation program, the patients filled in a multiple choice test by defining their current level of the quality of life using a scale from 0 to 10. The total outcome allowed determining the life comfort of the patients using a numerical and a descriptive scale.Results. The high mean numerical value obtained from the test lets us assume that most of the patients assessed using M test believe their quality of life is satisfactory.Conclusion. The simple and und understandable construction of the M test, fully accepted by all the studied patients, contributed to the reliability of the answers and the objective study outcome.
