THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SOCIAL CAPITAL AND GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE

Abstract
When violence against woman is taken as an ‘acceptable’ situation, especially depending on the social norms and values, formal or informal social support networks of women can be restricted. In this study, social support networks of women subjected to violence are analyzed through three social capital types: bonding social capital, bridging social capital and linking social capital. When studies conducted on gender-based violence are analyzed through these three social capital types, it is seen that women subjected to violence cannot get any support from individuals and institutions except for their immediate relatives and even that they lose their lives. In review study, from the point that there is not any study on this field in national literature, it is aimed to discuss social support networks of women subjected to violence within the context of social capital approach.
