THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN ORGANIZATIONAL COMMITMENT, PERSONALITY TRAITS AND BURNOUT LEVELS OF ACADEMICIANS

Abstract
The main objective of this study is examining the relationships between academicians’ organizational commitment level, personality traits and burnout levels. In this context, the definitions of organizational commitment, personality traits and burnout are primarily given. Then, the relationships between these variables are explained with the help of theoretical and empirical studies. 90 academicians from a state university in Central Anatolia participated voluntarily in this study. Data were collected utilizing Organizational Commitment Scale, Five Factor Personality Scale and Burnout Scale. The data of the study was collected through electronic access and hand - paper application. During the analysis process the distribution characteristics of the data were taken into account. Analysis was performed with the help of ‘‘Mean and standard deviation’’, ‘‘Pearson Product Moment Correlation Analysis’’ and ‘‘Hierarchical Regression Analysis’’. According to the findings of this study, academicians’ emotional commitment level is the highest and continuance commitment level is the lowest. Openness to experience has the highest score and neuroticism has the lowest score. In burnout levels mental burnout has the highest score and emotional burnout has the lowest score. There are statistically significant relationships between organizational commitment level, personality traits and burnout levels. Findings are discussed in the light of relevant literature.
