THE RESTORATION OF FIVE BRONZE BOWLS FROM HALLSTATT B3. PRELIMINARY STUDY CONCERNING DIAGNOSIS AND THE RESTORATION<br /> PROPOSALS

Journal Title: Brukenthal. Acta Musei - Year 2006, Vol 1, Issue 0

Abstract

The paper could be an example of interdisciplinary approach, regarding the study and conservation-restoration of five bronze objects from the Halstatt B3 period. They all belong to the History Museum collections of the Brukenthal National Museum from Sibiu. To establish the diagnosis, several examinations have been made with SEM, XRF, XR radiographies and microchemical analysis, in the country and abroad. There were identified the metal, patina and corosion products' composition, but also working techniques. The five pieces are in a final stage of physical deterioration including rifts, cracks, microcracks under the noble patina layer and some missing parts. The corrosion processes are stable, except for a fragment where it was identified copper clorides.
