The results of research work of V.V. Kolckunov in the section selection of National Institute of selection

Abstract
In the article the direction of research scientific work and results of Section selection of National Institute of selection and the role of V.V. Kolckunov in this process are disclosed. National Institute of selection is created thanks to initiative of Agricultural Scientific Committee of Ukraine and Sort and Seed management of Tsukrotrest in 1922. Its base included four laboratories of Kyiv Polytechnic Institute; among them, a laboratory of selection led by Professor V.V. Kolckunov (is reorganized to the section of selection). Under auspices of scientist was elaborated the program of work that primarily involved researching of anatomical and physiological features of plants to determine those drought. Received information were introduced into the process of selection. The object of research were wheat, pea and sugar beet. V.V. Kolckunov thought that only features of building crops were the cause of correlative correlation, concerning some features, for example, drought or frost crop, capacity and sugar, etc. Important results of research became clarification the possibility of interbreeding with getting plenteous and drought, sorts of winter wheat and the second result was that these features inherent sorts with small cells and wide leaves. Turned out size of leaf’s cell is correlative size not only for wheat, but also for other crops. In particular, this size related with resistance against corns, sometimes crop capacity and ripening. Except anatomical and physiological research in the section was made studying the methods of selection. It was gained the positive result according to rising drought and endurance on salt from soaking seeds in salt solutions.
