THE ROLE AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE MEDIA IN THE PROMOTION OF HEALTHY LIVING: The role of the Internet in the creation of social capital for health

Abstract

The aim of the paper is to show the role of the Internet in creating and shaping these types, elements and characteristics of social capital, which affect the health of the population. How social capital is created for health purposes, using the new medium of the Internet? The Internet was presented as an instrument in the process of social capital creation. The paper is for illustration purposes only and refers to the network of social capital shots proposed by French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu. In the mainstream considerations presented the action dedicated to the creation of “the social network” over the Internet, which become the way of mobilization and distribution of capital in order to increase the “wealth” forms of integration and community resources and individual people, and consequently generate a healthy activity and the health behavior of the population. In addition, attention to these areas of social activity that are directly related to the medical field. These are: (1) the use of the Internet by health professionals, mainly doctors and nurses, for communication between and within-professionals, (2) use the power of the Internet in the process of communication with the patient, or patient groups. In order to discuss the proposed topics were used research and theoretical works available in Polish and English.<br/><br/>
