THE ROLE OF LITERATURE IN TEACHING AND LEARNING LANGUAGE SKILLS

Abstract
The aim of any language should be to provide students for a lifetime of communication through the written and spoken word. This paper aims at emphasizing the use of literature as a popular technique for teaching both basic language skills, i.e. reading, writing, listening and speaking. It is asserted that learning language through literature is an exciting and different approach to language learning and it facilitates the language learning processes. The fully integrated language teaching is to teach grammar, reading, spelling, vocabulary, writing process, listening, thinking skills and more.
