THE ROLE OF MANUAL WORK IN OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY OF THE DISABLED

Abstract

The author points to a wide picture of Polish manualism as developed by prof. T. Nowacki. She discusses the role which can be attributed to manual work and treatment of persons with disabilities and to what extent, this work contributes to life in society. She emphasizes the goals of occupational therapy, and in which this therapy has a link to the Polish manualism as presented by prof. T. Nowacki. The author also discusses the importance of hand working in creating natural social environment and conditions for development, learning, work and leisure activities not only for people with disabilities, but also psychologically ill or elderly. The author turns in the article towards the humanist current for the disabled and emphasizes that the work and therapy are inseparable, and that the work is an indispensable part of everyone’s life.<br/><br/>
