The Role of Sense of Meaning in Readaptation of Prisoners
Journal Title: Theory and Practice of Social Systems Management - Year 2018, Vol 4, Issue 1
Abstract
The article is devoted to the problem of the influence of subjective psychological mechanisms in the readaptation process. Specialists dealing with research on social rehabilitation indicate that we can talk about readaptational success when moral improvement occurs, not only juridical. This leads to reflection on the psychological factors conducive to such a change. Factors corresponding with the abandonment of criminal activity include, among others: reformulating life goals, acquiring a new life perspective with a simultaneous critical attitude towards earlier behavior, creating bonds. All these variables are also related to the process of developing the cognitive, emotional and motivational attitude towards reality which entails a sense of meaning. The objective of this paper is to examine the relation between the prisoners’ sense of life’s meaning and their potential positive re-adaptation, based on previous research, and the attempt to create individual corrective interventions to strengthen the sense of meaning as a factor consolidating change in the group of people at risk of criminal career.
