The role of the European Council in the Brexit negotiations and in shaping the “new” foreign policy of the European Union

Abstract
The aim of the article is to analyze the role of the European Council in negotiations related to the planned withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union. European Union law defines the key role of the European Council in these negotiations. It is this institution that is responsible for shaping the principles and guidelines on the basis of which the negotiations are being conducted. It is no less important to regulate the future relations of the UK with the EU after the British leave the European Union. The role of the European Council will be crucial there as well
