THE ROLE OF THE STATE IN THE SOCIAL SPHERE PROVISIONS: HISTORICAL EXCURSION

Abstract
The author, using the historical method of research, provides a retrospective analysis of the participation of state entities that extended their power to the majority of Ukrainian lands, in the social-security relations during the Middle Ages and modern times (until the middle of the 19th century). The specifics of the state function in the sphere of social protection in the Kievan Rus are studied, in the Polish-Lithuanian state, in Moscow kingdom,and in the Russian Empire are studied as well; the author studies also peculiarities of the legal regulation of the social security system, which combined attempts to preserve the feudal system in society and attempts to begin to introduce elements of social protection of its citizens.
