The Sequencing of the Insulin-like Growth Factor 1 and Fibulin 5 Gene Variants in the Pre and Post-menopausal Women with Stress Urinary Incontinence
Journal Title: European Archives of Medical Research - Year 2019, Vol 35, Issue 3
Abstract
Objective: Urinary incontinence (UI) is defined as a social problem via involuntary incontinence. Genetic variations that occur especially in muscle and connective tissue can cause the susceptibility stress type UI. We aimed to investigate the variations in insulin-like growth factor 1 and Fibulin 5 (FBLN5) genes in the pre and postmenopausal women with stress UI (SUI). Methods: The study consisted of 4 groups: 43 premenopausal women with SUI, 30 premenopausal women without SUI, 43 postmenopausal women with SUI and 30 postmenopausal women without SUI. DNA was isolated from blood samples and sequenced with Illumina®MiSeq. The results were analyzed with SPSS22 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY, USA) and p value less than 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results: The A>G variant of rs6214 was found 5.26% (2/38) in the patient group and 0% (0/30) in the control group of the premenopausal group (p>0.05). This variant was found 2.44% (1/41) in the postmenopausal SUI group (p>0.05). The FBLN5 rs929608 variant was not found in any group. Conclusion: No significant association was found between UI and these variants.
