The Socializing Influence of Media Technologies on Children of Preschool Age

Abstract
The article focuses on the socializing influence of media technologies on preschool children and analyzes modern scientific perspectives on the specific aspects of children’s perception of screen images and how they transform children’s view of the world. These insights call for further studies of how media technologies affect the child’s personality in order to prevent their negative impact on this target audiences. The author highlights the multidimensionality of the concepts of “media,” “mass media,” “media technology,” which are associated with the existence of information society, with the technological revolution and with the emergence and spread of modern media technologies. In particular, psychological patterns and peculiar aspects of how children’s consciousness is formed under the influence of media information are discussed, with special emphasis on the positive and negative influence of media technologies on children of preschool age. The socialization possibilities of the mass media consists in the capacity to spread knowledge and shape the way in which reality is perceived and evaluated: they actually construct a subjective reality and “immerse” the younger generation in it. The role of meso-factors in the process of socialization of children of preschool is also discussed.
