Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2016, Vol 9, Issue 43

Abstract

Making sense of the life in the world is seen in every human community as the first and probably the most fundamental problem field. The complexity in making sense of the life in the world and perfection require thorough spiritual background and philosophy in the society. That Turkish people didn’t have a philosophy like in individual-based Greek thought before they adopted Islam doesn’t mean that they didn’t have a specific mentality. All varieties of cultural outputs emerging from this structure are anonymous because Turkish people adopted a collective, cooperative and totalitarian life style. Totalitarian life style dominated in all world of thought from the explanation of the universe to making sense of objects for Turkish people. Tree is one of the components which became cult by making an integrated sense in Turkish culture besides other objects. Tree was an essential figure in the eternity of life in envision of the universe. It maintained its meaningfulness in the cultural context after Turkish people adopted Islam. Therefore, our study shows how the components of Turkish culture through tree figure maintained their presence despite radical social and religious changes in the historical process. Furthermore, it shows how much the fundamental components of Turkish culture are durable and comprehensive on the basis of its philosophy.
