Abstract

The article is dedicated to the topic of strategic management in its empirical dimension. The presented analysis takes into account conditions characteristic of a contemporary world, i.e. mainly variability and uncertainty present-day companies are challenged by. The article aims to answer the question of what should be defined by strategies of organizations using new technologies and it confronts these assumptions with the strategy applied in ABB Sp. z o. o. The article is divided into five main parts. First two parts are devoted to theo-retical issues such as the concept of strategic management (including its charac-teristics, stages and procedures of strategic management). Remaining parts pre-sent empirical studies concerning characteristics of the analyzed organization: its area of activity, mission and objectives of activity, an analysis of methodology and selection process in the formulation of strategic management in the or-ganization. Finally, the article shows relations between strategic management and achieving success and competitive advantage. The article touches upon the up-to-date issue of the companies need to have a great ability to adapt to volatile conditions. In addition, competitive market and the on-going process of globalization force organizations to make decisions eliminating or alleviating negative effects.
