Abstract

The object of the article is an address expressed by the Vocative Case in Shevchenko’s poetry. The aim of the article is to reveal the stylistic effect of the address expressed by the Vocative Case in Shevchenko’s poetry and to define compensating means used by C. H. Andrusyshen and Watson Kirkconnell. Around 200 nouns in the Vocative Case are fixed and analyzed.Nouns take different inflected forms depending on which case they are used in. The Vocative Case is one of the distinguishing features of the Ukrainian language. The address expressed by the Vocative Case is a powerful stylistic device. The main purpose of the translator is to follow the individual style of the author of the original work. The main difficulty is the absence of theVocative Case in the Russian and English languages.
