Journal Title: Молодь і ринок - Year 2018, Vol 159, Issue 4
Abstract
The article considers particular theoretical aspects of teaching of reading in foreign language in the process of training of primary school teacher. It proves the effectiveness of teaching reading in the process of professional training of primary school teacher. Reading is seen as a process of understanding the written or printed text with the aim of getting information and/or intellectual/emotional satisfaction. It is a specific form of intercultural communication in the process of which certain modes of behaviour are formed, besides, thinking and the ability to analyse and evaluate are developed. Reading skills of a future primary school teacher include the ability to read and understand the gist of foreign language texts of different style and genre (fiction, scientific and publicistic literature), and also the ability to read profoundly. Reading texts should be informative and interesting, meet the students’ interests, life experience, individual and age peculiarities. They should motivate students to study a foreign language, extend their linguistic and sociocultural knowledge, be the source of developing and improving the students’ productive skills. The process of working with a text consists of three stages: pre-reading, while-reading and post-reading. Of special importance for a future teacher of primary school is the ability to read professionally oriented literature. The characteristic feature of professional texts is the extensive use of professional terminology. Reading the professional texts helps to extend the students’ knowledge of pedagogy, pedagogical psychology and methods of primary school teaching and develops skills necessary for further independent reading of professionally oriented literature. The main source of direct reading practice is systematic individual home reading of classical and contemporary fiction and professional literature in the process of which the foreign language communicative competence is gradually improved. Reading in foreign language is an inseparable element of professional training of primary school teacher, one of the important practical aims of the process of foreign language teaching and a means of increasing the general interest and motivation for studying a foreign language.
