The transformation of Gothic poetics in Daphne du Maurier’s novel “Rebecca”

Abstract
The article deals with the basic elements of the Gothic poetics in the novel “Rebecca” by D. du Maurier. It determines the important role of the Gothic tradition in the works of the English writer, also the key poetic components of Gothic novel typical for the artistic practice are outlined: Gothic chronotop, motives of mysterious death and crime, the images of Gothic villain and his victims. It describes creative rethinking of genre dominants, stereotypes and cliches of gothic literature as a feature of the “Gothic Revival”.
