THE TRIBOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF SOME PLASTIC GREASES EXPOSED TO KNEADING IN THE PRESENCE OF WATER

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2009, Vol 223, Issue 1

Abstract

The article presents the tribological characteristics of a synthetic plastic with a diversified quantitative and qualitative composition of the dispersed phase, exposed to prolonged kneading in the presence of water. The tribological tests describing the antiwear and antiseizure properties of developed plastic greases were carried out by the determination of limiting wear load (Goz), scuffing load (Pt), limiting seizure load (Poz) and limiting seizure pressure (poz). Physicochemical research determining the mechanical resistance of plastic greases were conducted and the analysis of influence of these changes on the tribological properties of grease was also carried out. On the basis of the physicochemical and tribological research results of tested greases have been concluded that, as a result of transverse forces operation under the influence of prolonged kneading, in the presence of water and during the exploitation in the bearing, change in the structure of the grease based on the calcium derivative of fatty acid and showed by definite concentration of the grease does not influence the properties of the grease. However, grease thickened with a lithium derivative of fatty acid (tested under the same conditions) undergoes rarefaction and its effectiveness decreases. Plastic grease based on despite of plastic grease thickened lithium derivative fatty acid undergo determined concentration.
