«THE TWELVE CHAIRS» BY ILYA ILF AND EVGENIJ PETROV: NOTES TO COMMENTARY

Abstract

The famous satirical novels by Ilya Ilf and Evgenij Petrov need detailed and exact comments. During the 1990s the first of them («The Twelve Chairs») was commented by several scholars, and the modern as well as the future readers have already access to some commented editions of the book. Nonetheless, there are interesting and important characters, situations and phrases which remain non-commented or even not enough comprehended. In the paper the comments on three passages of the kind are proposed.
