The unique sound matter in chamber music by Zygmunt Krauze

Journal Title: Notes Muzyczny - Year 2014, Vol 1, Issue 1

Abstract

Chamber pieces by Zygmunt Krauze are an important part of music achievements of our times. In his works we come across a new way of treating texture means influencing the performance aspect of these pieces, and they are e.g. music notation without metre and bar lines, characteristic treatment of time in music, which has its origin in sound unism inspired by Władysław Strzemiński’s painting, and a peculiar type of expression creating a unique sound matter reflecting the features of the composer’s personality. Separate fragments of the article present: the composer’s biography, his areas of fascination, philosophical and aesthetical grounds of his pieces, characteristic performance problems of selected compositions, and a list of chamber works by Zygmunt Krauze.
