THE WORLD TRADE LIBERALIZATION AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES: THE ROLE OF MULTINATIONAL CORPORATIONS

Abstract
Purpose. The article is devoted to the analysis of multinational corporations’ impact on the host country’s environmental conditions and the impact of environmental forces on the conditions of the multinational corporations’ economic activity. Methodology. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, we used a method of comparative analysis. The usage of this method allows analyzing the impact of environmentally responsible activities of multinational corporations on the national economies of the host countries. Results. The role of multinational corporations in the activation of the world trade liberalization processes was determined. The influence of the world trade liberalization on the environment through the environmental standards and income of the population, taking into account the influence of multinational corporations, is investigated. The role of recipient countries’ state authorities in the multinational corporations’ economic activity regulation in the sphere of environmental liability raising is highlighted. Originality. It is determined that the results of conducting the environmentally responsible activity by the multinational corporations are the macroeconomic effects, such as the increasing of the country’s energy independence, the unemployment reducing, the competitiveness increasing of national commodity producers in the domestic and orld markets, which positively affects the national economies functioning. Practical value. It is determined that the use of alternative energy sources, the improvement of the energy efficiency, the use of secondary raw materials and renewable materials is the way of preserving the environment and increasing the economic benefits for multinational corporations through the creation of new products and markets and also for the recipient countries’ national economies.
