Abstract
Some results of theoretical and experimental investigations of gas hole diameter, gas control hole diameter, initial volume of gas chamber and gas piston diameter influence on ballistic and kinematic parameters of gas operated weapon are presented in this paper. Experimental research was conducted using a special laboratory stand designed for testing mechanisms action of gas operated weapon. The laboratory stand provides slide assembly movement and gas pressures in barrel bore and gas chamber measurement. Basing on obtained experimental data, the slide assembly velocity changes in time were calculated. The experimental results were compared with theoretical ones, obtained from computer simulations based on developed physical model of the gas operated weapon and mathematical model of phenomena inside the barrel bore and the gas chamber. Knowledge of various parameters influence on the gas operated weapon characteristics let us to optimize design process and constructional verification of automatic weapon and decrease the number of experimental investigations. Obtained results have been used during development of the future assault rifle for Polish soldiers.
