Theoretical and Experimental Research Performed on the Tesla Turbine - Part I
Journal Title: Analele Universitatii "Eftimie Murgu" Resita. Fascicula de Inginerie - Year 2015, Vol 22, Issue 2
Abstract
The paper presents the theoretical and experimental research performed on a Tesla turbine driven by compressed air and designed to equip a teaching laboratory [1], [2]. It introduces the operating principle of the Tesla turbine, which was invented by engineer Nikola Tesla, a turbine which uses discs instead of blades, mounted on a shaft at a small distance between them. The turbine geometry, results from stress and flow calculations performed on the turbine rotor and assembly, using the Simulation modules and SolidWorks Flow Simulation program are presented. After designing the turbine, it becomes the subject of experimental research to determine the curve of the speed depending on the pressure. Also, the experimental research focuses on the behavior of the turbine from a dynamic point of view [3].

A Solution to Reduce Pollutant Emissions by Recovering the Flue Gases Waste Heat
From the point of view of the energy efficiency improvement and environmental protection, the recovery of waste heat from thermal systems is a necessity. The heat recovered through an economizer is a viable solution in o...
The Quality Analysis of the Thermal Sprayed Deposited Layers by Electronically Microscopy
The analysis performed by electronically microscopy lead to obtain the experimental data under tabular form. A linear chemical quantitative analysis over a 228.87 μm length was made of on a microscopically image at 250x...
Modal-Based Design Improvement of a Butterfly Valve Disc
The dynamic behavior control of a butterfly valve is important because, when one of the valve disc natural frequency is close to the frequency of vortex shedding, which appears when the valve is fully open or partially...
Design for a Sustainability of a Commercial Product: A Case Study of a Dynamic Loudspeaker
Sensitivity-based analysis carried out on the production of dynamic loudspeakers for client (A) and (B) showed that client (A) has reliability efficiency 0f 20.4% with 90% of Tp, 30%-Ep, 50%-Ecp, while client (B) has 30%...
X-Y Pen Plotter Design Accomplished from Older Drives
The paper describes the design and the implementation of a small, easily operable and flexible 2-axis CNC pen plotter (Computer Numerical Control). It is accomplished from two old and available CD-ROM (Compact Disc Read-...
