THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL ASPECTS OF HOUSEHOLD WASTE MANAGEMENT IN ROMANIA

Abstract
The success of any waste management system will depend largely on the active participation of the waste generators in the various communities and how they comply with the principles of collecting and separation of the waste. Separation of waste is one of the fundamental steps in an integrated waste management system with the potential to provide data on waste generation and the quality of the fractions. The latest statistics on the management of solid municipal waste in the EU show that there are large differences between Member States. The most significant difference occurs by comparing the ratio between storage and recycling. The storage is the most desirable management option in the waste hierarchy. Unfortunately, the storage continues to be the main method of waste disposal in some Member States. Waste storage should be practically minimized by 2020.
