Theoretical approaches used in psychological assistance provided by polish career counselors and counseling trainees

Abstract
The aim of the study presented in the article was to analyze beliefs concerning the use of specific theoretical orientations in counseling work by career counselors and career counseling trainees studying psychology. The article reviews the principles concerning the concept of counseling. They are a starting point for presenting the results of the study, in which 101 psychologists-career counselors and 199 fourth- and fifth-year psychology students participated. The results show that the preference of humanistic and psychodynamic orientations predominates over the cognitive behavioral orientation in both groups. The students placed a stronger emphasis on the role of the principles of humanistic psychology and the psychodynamic orientation in their future counseling work as compared to the counselors.
