«There is a beginning of the revolution, no end of the revolution»: 1917 in Russian historical policy and contemporary Russian-language historiography

Abstract

The author considers the process of forming in the Russian Federation an official state position in relation to the revolutionary events of 1917 and the response to the forming state position from the Russian historical community, political parties and public organizations. The role and place of historical community in modern Russian reflection on the revolution,its causes, main forces, progress and results is analyzed. The revolutionary events of 1917 constantly attracted and attracted the attention of historians and politicians. One of the most debated problems are the common and opposite components of February and October, analysis of the relationship between the stages of the revolutionary process, periodization of therevolution. The article considers the attitude to this complex of problems in contemporary Russian historical policy and Russian-language historiography.
