THERMAL LOAD IN THE TRIBOLOGICAL TESTS AGAINST THE PERFORMANCE OF THE NON-TOXIC GREASES

Journal Title: Tribologia - Year 2012, Vol 244, Issue 4

Abstract

This article presents an assessment of the heat influence on the tribological characteristics of the friction couple that was lubricated by the grease. After the tribological tests, the states of the surface of the frictional elements were assessed. The tests were conducted with an assigned and stable temperatures (20°C, 60°C, 120°C) with t he u se o f t he b all-on-disc couple. Beyond the variable heat factor, the other parameters of the test, such as: load, speed, and the role of friction were the same for all of the assessed lubricating compositions. The relationships between temperature and the fiction coefficients, as well as wear of the steel elements of the friction couple that were lubricated with the use of the tested greases were presented. After tribological tests, the influences of the thermal load on oxidation stability of greases were tested with the use of Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). Based on the research results, the efficacy of each of the greases applied was analysed. The research results revealed good lubricating properties and thermal stability of the lubricants, and proved the usefulness of the greases in the frictional contacts that are exposed to heat load.
