THINKING CRITICALLY IN MARITIME ENGLISH AS A PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCY PROMOTING FACTOR

Abstract

The article explores the role of Maritime English in future seafarers’ critical thinking skills development. The occupational standards and maritime training specifics as well as the existing contradictions in maritime education and training system are analyzed in light of the changed working conditions. The concept of critical thinking is interpreted from different scientific approaches. The universal and metadisciplinary character of the developing critical thinking technology is confirmed by means of Maritime English as well. Three-staged basic model of critical thinking skills development is represented along with the most common learning techniques used during the Maritime English teaching-learning process.
