Three-dimensional Performance of Vertical Axis Wind Rotor Inspired by Bionic Fish Ridge

Abstract
In order to improve the wind energy conversion efficiency of the resistance vertical axis wind rotor, the influence of wind rotor typical structural parameters of a proposed fish-ridged type wind rotor on wind energy conversion efficiency was investigated with three dimensional performance analysis based on the sliding grid method and the shear stress transport (SST) k-ω turbulence model.The transient numerical simulation method of unsteady fluid dynamics was used and the aerodynamic performance curves of the wind rotor were obtained.The analysis results indicate that with the increase of the helical angle, the wind energy conversion efficiency decreases obviously.With the increase of aspect ratio, the conversion efficiency increases.When the aspect ratio is 3.5, the peak conversion efficiency is 36.5% higher than that when the aspect ratio is 1.0.The aspect ratio and the helical angle lead to the change in the pressure fields, which affects the aerodynamic performance of the wind rotor.
