Three Major Soybean Diseases: Targeted Biological Control
Journal Title: International Journal of Research and Advances in Agricultural Sciences - Year 2022, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
Soybean cyst nematode (Heterodera glycines Ichinohe), Phytophthora root rot (caused by the fungus Phytophthora sojae), and Sclerotinia stem rot (caused by the fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum (Lid.) de Bary) all have a negative impact on soybean growth and yield, leading to substantial financial losses. Because of its sustainability and low environmental impact, biocontrol is a viable option for eradicating soybean diseases. There have been few reports of biocontrol strategies for these three soybean diseases. This examination began with a presentation of the biological properties of the three pathogens and the prevalence characteristics of the three illnesses that affect soybeans. Biocontrol agents, such as fungi and bacteria, were then highlighted for their ability to control the three illnesses and for the processes by which they exert this control. Under either greenhouse or field conditions, Bacillus and Streptomyces were proven to be effective against all three pathogens affecting soybeans. The paper concludes with recommendations for further study on the biocontrol of soybean diseases, including the screening of novel biocontrol species and the detailed study of biocontrol molecular processes.

A Study of the Effects of Abiotic Stress Factors on the Conductance of Leaves', Stomata and Mesophyll
Through photosynthesis, plants take in atmospheric CO2, with the effectiveness of CO2 diffusion being limited by the resistance of mesophyll and stomata. Since CO2 concentrations at carboxylation sites regulate photosynt...
Resilience and Impact of Organic Farming on Carbon Footprint Reduction and Climate Change Mitigation
Since climate change is inevitable, serious work must be done to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius. A significant contribution to climate change mitigation may come from agricultural productivity. Agricultura...
The Role of Gibberellins and Cytokinins on Florists’ Greens Post-Harvest Shelf Life
Since the vase life of florists' greens must correspond to that of the flowers, this article summarizes the findings of studies undertaken over the years to increase the post-harvest lifetime of species raised for floris...
Accelerated Breeding for Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Through Genome Editing
Successful breeding maximizes the offspring's expression of the superior or desirable trait of the parents. It is common practice to employ hybrids in this ever-evolving and intricate procedure, which normally calls for...
