Resilience and Impact of Organic Farming on Carbon Footprint Reduction and Climate Change Mitigation

Abstract

Since climate change is inevitable, serious work must be done to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius. A significant contribution to climate change mitigation may come from agricultural productivity. Agricultural practices that produce large amounts of greenhouse gases (GHG) must be improved. The creation of a crop's CF relies heavily on mineral fertilization, one of the several processes involved in plant cultivation. Many strategies exist for decreasing fertilizer-related greenhouse gas emissions. Combining tillage practices with reduced and no-till technologies, as well as growing catch crops and leguminous plants, may further lower the CF. When properly implemented, organic farming has the potential to decrease the release of greenhouse gases and increase the storage of organic carbon. By removing the need for synthetic nitrogen fertilizers, this approach has the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture throughout the world. Soil organic carbon levels may increase with organic farming as compared to conventional farming. Significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions are possible when these methods are combined with others that are good for the environment.
