Thrust and jet directional control using the Coanda effect
Journal Title: INCAS BULLETIN - Year 2018, Vol 10, Issue 2
Abstract
The application of the Coandă effect to the directional control of a jet or thrust is presented. Deviation of the thrust force by direct flow can be achieved by using the Coandă effect to change the angle of the primary jet engine exhaust nozzle. Major interest in the study of this phenomenon is caused by the possibility of using this effect for aircrafts with short take-off and landing, for thrust vectoring. The numerical investigations are performed using a RANS solver with an adequate turbulence model, showing a change of the jet direction. Thus, the conditions and the limits within which one can benefit from the advantages of Coandă-type flows are determined.

Dynamics of a cylindrical shell with a collapsing elastic base under the action of a pressure wave
In the dynamic and quasi-static statements, the issue of non-stationary deformation and stability of the solid propellant rocket engine (SPRE) was approximately solved. It is modeled by a thin, smooth cylindrical shell,...
Aerodynamic Performance of Micro Aerial Wing Structures at Low Reynolds Number
Corrugations are folds on a surface as found on wings of dragon fly insects. Although they fly at relatively lower altitudes its wings are adapted for better aerodynamic and aero-elastic characteristics. In the present w...
General principles of passive radar signature reducing – stealth technology and its applications
The paper presents passive radar signature reducing principles and technologies and discusses the ways to implement stealthy characteristics in general vehicle design. Stealth is a major requirement to all current-genera...
Thermal protection of aircraft units using film cooling with regard to unsteady heat conductivity
A simplified physical and mathematical model of combined thermal conductivity and filtering of a cooler with a strong dependence of dynamic viscosity on temperature during film cooling of bodies was developed. The model...
Development of Framework for Acquisition of Avionics Integration Capability
With the rapid advancement in electronics technology, in the last three decades Avionics systems have evolved from standalone single function units to functionally correlated and interdependent systems. To harness the po...
