To А.М. Gubaydullin’s jubilee

Abstract

Ayrat Maratovich Gubaydullin, Ph. D. (History), senior researcher, Institute of Archeology named after A.Kh. Khalikov, Tatarstan Academy of Sciences, has celebrated his 50th anniversary. Ayrat Maratovich is a renowned expert in the field of ancient and medieval fortification. The principal sphere of his research is related to the Ural-Volga region hill forts in the early Iron Age and the Middle Ages, urban settlements of Volga Bulgaria, Bulgar ulus of the Golden Horde, and Kazan Khanate. A.M. Gubaidullin has headed excavations on a number of major hill forts in the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan. The results of the many years of his research were summarized in the monograph on “Fortification of Volga Bulgaria hill forts” authored by him.
