Abstract
This article aims to outline several issues related to the reception of antiquity in Polish sermons of the late Middle ages. The manner in which antique threads were manifested in the texts of sermons is analysed by drawing on preaching texts of such authors as Mikołaj of błonie, jakub of Paradyż, Mateusz of kraków or stanisław of skarbimierz. These could be direct references to the heritage of antiquity, quotes of histories, characters, references and examples. by introducing threads from antique culture in texts which represented christian teaching, the former were assigned new meanings, and new thought potential was discovered in them
