To Study of Essential Oil Composition and Antioxidant Activity of Salvia Reuterana Boiss
Journal Title: International Journal of Farming and Allied Sciences - Year 2014, Vol 3, Issue 12
Abstract
In this research we have investigated essential oil constituents and antioxidant property of salvia reuterana plant. The leaf and steam plant are collected from around oshtar, provienceof lorestan,(Iran). The chemical composition of the essential oil plant obtained by hydrodistillation using a Clevenger. Composite was analysed by GC-MS.the extraction was carried out with soxhlet apparatus. For antioxidant activity investigation used of TPC, DPPH and FTC, TBA method .then result by comparison of vitamin c antioxidant activity (natural antioxidant) and BHT (synthetic antioxidant). 26 components were identified in the essentialOil,that 90%of total composition. The major components of leaf essential oil were: α-pinene9.5%, germacrene-D 3%,β-caryophyllene 15.5%,spathulenol5.7%, bicyclogermacrene 9.2%,caryophyllene 6.4% ,γ-terpinene.4%, limonene.3%. The major components of stem essential oil were: α-pinene.4%, germacrene-D .3%,β-caryophyllene .8%,spathulenol .42%, bicyclogermacrene 13%,caryophyllene 4.75% , γ-terpinene .6%, limonene .6%. Percentage of antioxidant activity were determined for ethanolic extract of the leaf plant under study 24%, stem 33% , C vitamin 32%, BHT 50% by TBA method and 72% of the leaves plant, 67% of the stem plant ,C vitamin 81%, BHT 80% for FTC method. In this plant by use of TBA method stem plant show antioxidant activity more than vitamin c which showed important of this plant. .In Absorption read at plant phenolic compound method for stem of this plant .39, amount of phenolic compound 99.32 mgGAEg-1 and according DPPH test amount of antioxidant with IC50 is 85 μg/ml and Absorption read at plant phenolic compound method for leaf of this plant .572, amount of phenolic compound 158.59 mgGAEg-1 and according DPPH test amount of antioxidant with IC50 is 52 μg/ml. High DPPH free radical scavengering activity can relativity to phenolic compound rate.then high value of plant phenolic compound ,show increase of antioxidant activity IC50 have lowest possible concentration in DPPH method are able to trap of free radical. therefore how much this concentration Is decreased show that extract has high antiradical activity. By regards of this plant in iran natural, essence of this plant as an natural antioxidant in industrial food and drugs.
